We were up at 4:30am and on the road just before 5am to attend the Dawn Service at the Mothers Memorial in town. It was one of the best services we have been to, apart from the Service at the Canberra War Memorial. Weather for Dawn Services is either good or bad; today it was bad, but not too bad, only a light drizzle, with a fairly stiff breeze. Back to the van for breakfast and a short rest.
Because Greg, Kev and Jo are all avid gardeners, we took a drive to the Springs Garden World, that was supposed to open at 9am. We arrived at 9:05am, only to note they were opening at 11am on ANZAC Day. So, off to Newton Park that has the State Rose Garden within in. Despite the drizzle, we had a good wander and occassionally stopped to smell the roses, some that smelt good enought to eat, and others that didn't have any aroma at all.
We then had mornos at Bob and Prudy's place which was a really great occassion. An hour later we were back on the road heading to Garden World, however, we took a bit of a detour to the Laurel Bank Park Gardens that is also known as the sensory garden. Another fantastic open space for Toowoomba, with some great topiary hedges, see photos.
It was then onto Garden World which was an amazing mix of giftware, outdoor furniture and plants. We had a good wander, and because we are in the van, we couldn't purchase anything. The aromas wafting from the inhouse Kingfisher Cafe were too strong to ignore, and we just had to have lunch there before heading back to the vans.
Back to the vans with full bellies, we were all a bit sleepy, so had another rest. Greg was going to go for one last ride in Toowoomba, however the weather closed in and it was not conducive to riding. Pre-dinner drinks in K&J's van before a simple dinner, a bit of TV, then bed.
