We were on the road 15 minutes ahead of our scheduled 8am departure and first stop was at Herberton. You have to be a mountain goat to get around this old mining town, but it was a pleasant walk around the main attractions. We last visited Herberton in June 2018 with Gunther and Yvonne.
Back on the road, we stopped for mornos at Ravenshoe, the place of the Highest Everything - pub, newsagent, bakery, etc in Qld. It was a bit overcast when we arrived, but after a coffee made in the van, it was clear enough to walk the main street, which was very busy with holidaymakers.
Due to the lack of interesting stops at the appropriate time, lunch was had at a roadside gravel-pit on the Western side of Mt Garnet. Nothing at Mt Garnet caught our attention, moving right along.
We arrived at Mt Surprise just before 2pm. After setting up, a cuppa, and a rest, we hit the streets of Mt Surprise. Not much has changed since we stopped here for mornos in 2018. Back to the van to exercise and stretch before pre-dinner drinks.
A good day on a really good road, one that has recently been re-sealed.
