Day 28: Sun 5 Jun - Yeppoon to Sarina, 340km; total towed: 3 455km

15-26 deg C; a lovely sunny day to start, then overcast and a little humid once in Sarina

We left the van park at Yeppoon at 8:10am, heading for Sarina. Our first stop was at Marlborough because none of us had ever been there, and we needed mornos. It's funny how a place only 1km off the highway tends to get bypassed so easily. Mornos was had in a well appointed and maintained Lions Park, before setting off to visit the Historical Museum. It was a bit tired around the edges, the old stuff was very old, but very well maintained. For a tiny town it was a credit to the volunteers who obviously work hard to collect and present all the stuff on display.

The highway was fairly busy, for a Sunday, and in the main everyone was well behaved, well most of the time. It was then onto another place we had never pulled off the highway to visit, Saint Lawrence, about 7km off the main road. The main North/South railway line goes through it so there's a little tin station there.  The old one, with much more character, is also there, but they recycled it into a lovely library.  The only "shop" still operating in SL is the pub, which had "a plate of prawns and seafood sauce" for $20 or a "hot roast beef and gravy roll" for $8, very tempting, but we decided that home made would be better.

The third and final detour for the day was a short one to Clairview, a beach village with a caravan park and a couple of dozen houses. The whole place is only one house deep, so everyone has a view to die for out over a beautifully coloured ocean and islands.

The push North continued after lunch and we pulled into the Sarina Palms Caravan Park at 3pm. Both sites were fairly tight but the owner directed us in without missing a beat. This van park is a real surprise package, immaculately maintained and clean with palms and trees everywhere so it just feels like a tropical resort. After settling in we headed off for a walk around town, which didn't take long.

Happy hour was had at our pad (we are not next to each other, but not far apart), then dinner, and not long after, bed.

The road today was ranged from excellent to downright bumpy/rocky-rolly.

Wrap-up and Reflections
