Day 34: Sat 11 Jun - Ingham to Innisfail, 148km; total towed: 4 148km

3.7 (feels like 0.9)-24 deg C, another clear, crisp morning, to windy then cloud cover at Innisfail with strongish winds

We were on the road just after 8:30am after sort of helping the neighbours with their battery issues. First stop was at Cardwell, a town we had simply driven through without paying much attention. We parked at the south end, which enabled us to walk the main street. The highlight was walking the jetty, that we have always wanted to do. Mornos was had at Seabreeze Café and it was good. The other significant thing on Cardwell was the Big Crab, adding to the ever-growing list of  'Big' things.

Onwards to Tully where we just had to stop to photograph the Big Golden Gumboot. The height of the gumboot represents the amount of rainfall recorded in Tully in 1950 - 7.9 metres! The Australian Record. We were going to keep going after taking our photos, however, we decided to walk the main street, and what a lovely town it is. Wendy even found a pair of croc-like sandals without the holes that she has been looking for for a while now.

Last stop was at the BIG4 Innisfail Mango Tree, at South Innisfail. A lovely caravan park with a drive-through site but still have to disconnect. After lunch and a rest, we hit town on the bikes. Innisfail was established in1879 and was originally called Geraldton. It was renamed in 1910 after a ship confused towns and travelled to Geraldton WA. Innisfail is famous for its art deco buildings that were built in 1918 after a cyclone destroyed almost every building in town.

Dinner was had at the Crown Hotel that looked as though it had recently had a makeover. The meals were superb and we all left with very full bellies. Thank you to B&N for driving.
