Day 31: Wed 8 Jun - Ayr

17-26 deg C, a lovely sunny day

After breakfast and helping with some van repairs (B&N van), all four of us set off on the bikes to tour Ayr. First up was a visit to the Juru Walk at Plantation Park. Juru Walk is a path that recognises the spiritual connection of Aboriginals who live in the region. The track along the Walk takes you past different types of traditional bush tucker trees, plants and shrubs. The Big Turtle lives in the Juru Walk. Plantation Park is spiritually significant to the Aboriginals as the women used to give birth on the banks of the creek. The Park is also home to Gubulla Munda, the Big Snake.

It was then onto the Ayr Nature Display that is Australia's finest preserved collection of butterflies, moths, beetles, crustaceans, sea shells, reptiles, rocks, timber, Aboriginal stone implements, fossils, especially ammonites. The display was created by just one man. On the ceiling of the display, there are 1 310 butterflies made from North Queensland rocks, slabbed by a diamond saw, shaped with a tile cutter, and smoothed off on an emery wheel. It really was a masterpiece. The man that showed us around is married to the lady whose dad created the place, and he was a font of knowledge.

ANZAC Square was next, then to Woolies for a few supplies to consume whilst watching the first State of Origin football match - meat pies and chips! Back to the van for lunch and a rest. After a cuppa, the boys went for a quick 20km ride before hitting the gym mats for exercise and stretch routines.

Then time to prepare for dinner and the big footy match. B&N bought an Air Fryer today, so we had pies and chips cooked in the Air Fryer and we were all surprised at how crispy everything was, especially the chips - they were so yummy.

We called time on the footy at half-time, and QLD was in front, only just! We declared it a win to Qld, beauty!!
