Day 81: Thu 28 Jul - Blackall to Augathella, 220km; total towed: 8 243km

4 (feels like -0.1) - 19 (feels like 15) deg C, - thank goodness for gas heaters - despite the cold temperatures, the sky was cloudless and sunny, with that persistent SE wind

We awoke about 6am, and Wendy reached out from the warmth to turn the gas heater on. 20 minutes later we were up, dressed, and going about our morning routine.

After breakfast, we were on our way towards Tambo a little before 8:30am. Not much to say about the road, other than it was a typical QLD road; good in parts but not so good in others. We arrived at Tambo in time for morning tea. Unfortunately, one café was closed - "back in 10 minutes", and the other did not tickle our fancy. So after wandering up and down the main street, we purchased a fruit loaf and headed back to the van for coffee and fruit loaf. The coffee was good and the loaf was just okay for Wendy, whilst the coffee (purchased on The Tablelands) was just okay and the loaf was good for Greg.

Onwards we traveled towards Augathella. We arrived at the Augathella Diggers Rodeo Grounds at 12:45pm. We were the second camper there and at the time of writing (7pm), we are one of four. Over the river at the Augathella Warrego River Picnic/Camping area (we stayed here in 2020), it was almost standing room only. The camp where we are tonight and two other new ones, were not available back in 2020. Just shows the growth of camping and caravanning since COVID. It was a lovely spot, quiet and dark, however far too cold to be out stargazing.

After lunch and a rest, we rode over the very dry Warrego River to Augathella and visited some of the places we did in 2020. Back at the van we did our exercises and stretches before Wendy did some relaxing by crocheting. Pre-dinner drinks were had outside until it got a tad cool. We retired into the van for dinner and an evening of TV and more relaxing.
