Day 43: Mon 20 Jun - Chillagoe to Port Douglas, 223km; total towed: 4 664km

15 (feels like 13)-26 deg C, fine and sunny at Chillagoe to overcast and gloomy as we neared the Tablelands and continued all the way to Port Douglas

We were on the road at 8am and not more than 10km down the road, we sat at a red light at roadworks for the longest we have ever waited. Eventually we were on the way. The road today was quite bumpy, even on a few of the sealed roads. First stop was for a pit stop at Dimbulah. Mornos was had at Bihoora, behind the servo. Down the range we went, nice wide curves and a great road made it fairly easy. Might not be that easy going up on Wednesday.

We were checked in at BIG4 Port Douglas, and on our site (#98) just before 12:30pm. After set up, lunch and a rest, we rode into Port Douglas for a look around. We found ourselves at the Marina and just had to have an ice cream as we were perusing the boats and shops! We then rode to Rex Smeal Park, where there were wedding reception tables set-up which looked very inviting, but ours must have been lost in the mail, so we couldn't join in.

Back home and pre-dinner drinks were had with B&N on their site way down the hill (when we booked they weren't able to locate us together or even close). After dinner we just had to watch 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, which was particularly funny tonight.

Wendy managed to capture the Southern Cross last night, not the best picture, however still has all five stars

Wrap-up and Reflections

The main thing we learned on this trip was to stay flexible. Bad weather interrupted us 25 days into the trip, meaning we had to spend three...
