6-24 deg C, fine, sunny, and quite windy
Our gas heater got a workout this morning, the first time
this trip. As we were in no rush to get out of bed to be anywhere, we decided
to warm up the van a little before we arose for the day; it worked so well.
After gathering all our clothes for the day, we climbed back into bed with
them, and by the time the van was warm, so were our clothes.
After breakfast we drove back out to the National Park to do
the four remaining tracks. B&N told us last night that the bridge to get to
three of the walks had been washed away in the last wet season and not yet
replaced. The result being a wade through fast flowing water, sometimes as deep
as thigh-high, over slippery rocks. Wendy was not keen at all and when we saw the
crossing, Greg decided to give it a miss too. (When visiting these sorts of places,
we always like to leave something so we have an excuse to come back again – not
that we need an excuse.) Instead, we did the 3.7km Constance Range Track which
involved several steep sections to climb and descend. Although Wendy huffed and
puffed going up, she did make it all the way. At the top, we stopped for a few
nuts and some BYO coffee, before making our way down the hill slowly and
carefully. We found a nice spot along the creek to finish off our mornos before
heading back to the van. It was so nice sitting above that beautiful crystal-clear
water watching all the fish go about their business. We also got to see a
Coucal pheasant, (normally very shy) that landed in a pandanus palm right next
to us, and many canoers going past.
Before lunch, Greg let some air out of the tyres on both the
Cruiser and the van in the hope they will travel a bit better on the return
trip. We also had the mother ship supply the van with a little more water.
Whilst we haven’t been wasting our van water, we haven’t exactly been stingy,
knowing the 160-litre tank was in the back of the Cruiser. After lunch we both
had an LLD. Greg then went for a ride with Bob whilst Wendy did some admin and
blogging.
The third State of Origin match is on tonight, so we had
footy franks (thin ones) in a hot dog roll with caramelised onion, sauce, and
oven cooked chips. Can’t use the air fryer this time as we have no 240v power,
except in the camp kitchen that doubles as the park’s restaurant. After that
delicious and ever so healthy dinner, we wandered down to the camp
kitchen/restaurant to watch some of the game. After 20 minutes or so, it was
still nil all, so we retired to the van.
