7-23 (both felt a lot colder), we are being spoiled with
these gorgeous sunny days, wind picked up a bit late afternoon
We were up at 6:30am (after a fairly cold night) and it was
a tad fresh. Brekky out of the way, we drove the 10km out to Boodjamulla
National Park to do some of the walks on offer around Lawn Hill Gorge. We
decided to do the longer, more challenging walks today and the rest tomorrow,
and off we went. We traversed in a figure-eight and first up was Indarri Falls,
that although not a very high nor long a fall, are quite beautiful, dropping
into the lovely aqua-coloured waters of the gorge. Onwards to Upper Gorge and
the Upper Gorge Lookout, which was pretty speccy too. We took the steep slope
up and the easier way back down. On the way back, we stopped at the Indarri
Falls Lookout that provided a much better view of the falls and surrounding
gorge. The Duwadarri waterhole was next, and the trip down the hill back to the
info centre was the most challenging today, especially for Wendy. We made it
back to the car park, where mornos of coffee and snacks was waiting in the
truck. In just under three hours for about 8.7km, considering the terrain and
the many photo opportunities was pretty good.
Back to the van for lunch and a rest. After an afternoon
cuppa, we took the bikes out for a short ride just to get all the lactic acid
out of the legs. A nice tailwind on the way home was very nice.
Pre-dinner drinks were had at the usual time of 5:30pm and
it was a good hour later we retired to our van for dinner.
Greg fixed the microwave housing today and vowed to strengthen the rather flimsy way it has been secured when we get home. We have concluded that vans are built to fail; that way every van repair agency is guaranteed a steady income, or you end up replacing the whole van. This van is allegedly classed as semi-offroad, but the internal oven glass door has shattered twice, various items have come loose or fallen off and the hot water system has had to have a small part replaced. However, all things considered it has served us well and kept us warm/cool and dry on many a cold/hot night in the middle of nowhere, so we can’t complain.
Another fantastic day in the great outdoors of Australia.
